SUMMARY:Insights\, Perspectives and Results from the Intermodal Transport Survey and Resilient Transport Networks Projects [Webinar]
DESCRIPTION:Understanding how intermodal transport is planned\, implemented\, and experienced in practice is key to strengthening the resilience and efficiency of European logistics networks. In this context\, ReMuNet contributes to a joint webinar centred on the Intermodal Transport Survey\, highlighting its objectives\, structure\, and early insights\, while inviting stakeholders to engage with its findings and future development. \nThe session will position the survey within the broader European policy and innovation landscape\, including upcoming funding opportunities and reflections on resilience and intermodality from a network and Physical Internet perspective. ReMuNet\, alongside the SARIL project\, will present key results and innovations\, demonstrating how survey findings connect to ongoing research and initiatives under the ALICE Resilient Transport Network Programme and upcoming activities at TRA 2026. \nAt the core of the webinar\, the Intermodal Transport Survey will be explored in detail\, followed by reflections on how the collected insights can inform future research\, policymaking\, and industry practices. DESCRIPTION:Recently\, the SARIL and ReMuNet projects teamed up to host an informative webinar titled “Strategies and Tools for Sustainable and Resilient Intermodal Transport Networks“. The focus was on addressing the challenges and proposing innovative solutions to ensure robust supply chains amid the complexities of globalisation and unforeseen disruptions. \nInsights and Highlights\n1. Multimodal Transport Ecosystem\nPresenter: John von Stamm (FIR at RWTH Aachen) \nJohn von Stamm kicked off the session by presenting the first results of the ReMuNet project\, which is dedicated to creating a resilient multimodal freight transport network in Europe. His key points included: \n\nUnderstanding the complex ecosystem of multimodal transport.\nCategorizing disruptive events that can impact the network.\nDeveloping an algorithm designed to avoid crisis areas and ensure smooth operations.\n\n2. Routing and Network Optimization\nPresenter: Florian Krietsch (PTV Group) \nFlorian Krietsch discussed the critical aspects of intermodal services that facilitate modal shifts through advanced simulation\, collaboration\, and operational scenarios. He emphasized the importance of: \n\nStrategic planning to prepare for potential disruptions.\nOperational planning to handle real-time challenges effectively.\n\n3. Transparency and Flexibility in Intermodal Transport\nPresenter: Lars Deiterding (HACON) \nLars Deiterding highlighted the necessity of making intermodal transport as transparent and flexible as modern multimodal passenger trips. He pointed out that: \n\nCollaboration among various stakeholders is crucial.\nData exchange plays a vital role in achieving transparency and flexibility in transport operations.\n\n4. Optimising Intermodal Networks\nPresenter: Victor Becerra (DASSAULT SYSTEMES) \nVictor Becerra shared valuable lessons learned and strategies for mastering intermodal transport networks. His focus areas included: \n\nEffective data management to support decision-making processes.\nEnsuring system interoperability to integrate various transport modes.\nCapacity management to optimize network efficiency.\n\n5. SARIL Methodology\nPresenter: Corinna Köpke (Fraunhofer EMI) \nCorinna Köpke introduced the SARIL methodology\, which combines strategic and operational tools to support resilient and sustainable logistics operations. Key components of the methodology are: \n\nScenario simulations to prepare for different potential disruptions.\nRoute attribute models to optimize transport routes.\nCollaborative platforms for data exchange among stakeholders.\n\nThe session concluded with a Q&A and collaborative discussions aimed at refining these innovative solutions to meet industry needs.
