SUMMARY:ReMuNet Finnish Partners Workshop: Analyzing Disruptive Events in European Freight Transport
DESCRIPTION:The Finnish partners of the ReMuNet consortium recently convened for a second meeting on February 1st\, 2024. The gathering’s purpose was to exchange knowledge\, focusing on crucial deliverables and upcoming tasks within the project. \nSummary of Workshop Discussions: \nTeam Hanken\, a key member of the consortium\, kicked off the workshop by providing an overview of the deliverables completed just before the winter break in December 2023. These deliverables was the groundwork for the project’s progress and set the stage for further exploration. \nA significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to discussions surrounding the upcoming deliverable in Work Package 1 (WP1): the Analysis of effects of disruptive events on the European freight transport network and resulting social impact. \nCase Study: Rhine River Valley Disruptions: \nDuring the workshop\, participants engaged in a focused group discussion centered around a pertinent case study: the Rhine River Valley and its regular disruptions caused by droughts. The group delved into the multifaceted impacts of these disruptions on the transport network\, supply chain\, and society at large\, highlighting the interconnectedness of these elements. \nData Analysis by the Finnish Meteorological Institute: \nOne of the highlights of the workshop was a presentation by the Finnish Meteorological Institute\, which provided an in-depth analysis of climate-related data spanning the last 30 years. Parameters such as maximum daily temperature and precipitation across different regions in the European Union were visually displayed\, offering valuable insights into climate patterns and trends. \nFurthermore\, predictions on climate patterns for the next 70 years were presented\, sparking discussions among participants on how these projections will influence transport planning strategies within the EU.
