Webinar Recap – 10 June 2025
On 10th June 2025, the third webinar in our Resilient Transport Networks series brought together experts and project partners to explore practical solutions for enhancing the resilience and sustainability of Europe’s freight and logistics systems. Against the backdrop of increasing challenges—from extreme weather and geopolitical uncertainties to health crises and energy volatility—this session marked a significant step towards turning innovative concepts into real-world applications. Following the foundational discussions in earlier sessions, this webinar shifted the focus firmly towards implementation. The event presented digital tools, strategic approaches, and ongoing European projects designed to safeguard and optimise transport infrastructure across multiple modes.
Disruption Information Interface Tool
Marta Waldmann (L-PIT) introduced the Disruption Information Interface Tool, designed to provide transport operators and logistics stakeholders with real-time data on potential and ongoing disruptions. This tool enhances situational awareness by integrating diverse data sources, enabling proactive decision-making and reducing operational uncertainty.
Energy Module Tool
Kelly Pitera (SINTEF) presented the Energy Module Tool, an innovative solution addressing energy-related challenges in transport networks. By modelling energy availability and demand, the tool supports more energy-efficient logistics planning and helps mitigate the impacts of energy instability on freight movement.
TRANSCEND Project Overview
Carolina Cipres (ZLC) detailed the TRANSCEND project’s multi-faceted approach to transport resilience, focusing on cyber and physical threats to freight infrastructure. TRANSCEND’s flagship innovation, the AI-powered Control Tower, provides infrastructure managers with a comprehensive platform to monitor, predict, and simulate risks. Unique in its integration of internal transport management systems and external data, ranging from weather alerts to cybersecurity signals, the Control Tower enables early warnings and coordinated responses across multiple transport modes and interconnected sectors. Carolina also highlighted TRANSCEND’s real-world application across five European pilot sites, demonstrating its practical impact.
ReMuNet Project Presentation
Nils-Olaf Klabunde from 4PL Intermodal GmbH shared insights from the ReMuNet project, focusing on digital logistics services that facilitate seamless intermodal transport. Emphasising interoperability and flexibility, ReMuNet’s platform supports route optimisation, disruption management, and automated booking adjustments. The project’s concentration on rail-based intermodal corridors exemplifies the integration of digital transformation with sustainable transport objectives.
This webinar series continues to highlight the evolving landscape of European transport, where digital innovation, sustainability, and resilience converge. As projects like SARIL, TRANSCEND and ReMuNet progress from theory to application, the transport sector is better equipped to anticipate, absorb, and adapt to disruptions—ensuring the continuity and sustainability of vital supply chains.
